Women of Walterboro
From businesswomen to politicians, to historians, mothers, wives, teachers, and more--------this program by local scholar Elizabeth Laney will look at ten incredible women from Walterboro's history that everyone should know. We'll begin with Eliza Clitherall whose early 19th-century descriptions of Walterborotell us about a seasonal town with only around 20 families to Ivenia Brown, one of the most well-known educators of the 20th century.
Other featured figures will include Sophia Sanderson (Civil War veteran's wife), Claudia Stewart (early librarian and teacher), Mrs. W.A. Black (businesswoman), Rachel Waring Maree (businesswoman and single mother), Lucia Patterson (Walterboro's first woman elected to a public office), Beulah Glover (town historian), Rebecca Maree (journarlist/businesswoman), and Ameila Fraser (librarian).
